Lake-Filled Region in Northeastern Minnesota

The Ely and Babbit region of Minnesota is one of the state's most precious escapes. People from all over the country seek the land's unspoiled nature and gorgeous lakes.

Downtown Ely offers many unique shops, restaurants, inns and the Ely School System, and the Ely Community Health Center. Babbit is a smaller town, but it has grocery stores, shops, and eateries to fulfill your daily needs.

Shagawa Lake is located just off the town of Ely. The 2,344-acre lake is a beautiful view for the city-goers and a recreational hub for its residents.

Just above Shagawa Lake, Burntside Lake stretches for nine miles and covers 7,314 acres. It is prevalent among water skiers, wakeboarders, and speed boaters. The lake has exceptionally clear waters, having water clarity at up to 20 feet. It is home to numerous islands with sandy shores where it's easy to dock the boat and swim.

White Iron Lake, Fall Lake, and Moose Lake are other large water bodies in the area that entertain the same activities.

Birch Lake is the largest in the Babbit area; the beautiful body of water covers 5,628 acres. People enjoy exploring the scenic, 21-mile stretch in kayaks and canoes.

Being in Lake Superior's North Shore Area, you will never be far from outdoor excursions, restaurants, shops, or resorts.

Kawishiwi Falls Trail is below Fall Lake; a short but scenic walk will bring you to a beautiful rocky waterfall. Other trails around Ely include Trezona Trail, Bass Lake Trail, and Dry Lake Falls.

Superior National Forest is east of the towns, and Bear Lake State Park is to the west. Both parks feature picturesque landscapes, marked trails, and camping areas.
