Shagawa Lake is one of Minnesota’s most precious escapes; this beautiful lake and its surrounding area host recreational activities year-round.

The city of Ely borders the lake, where there are restaurants, stores, schools, and the Ely Community Health Center. The Shagawa Lake Seaplane Base is located on the lake as well.

International Falls and Duluth are both two hours away, featuring the Falls International Airport and Duluth International Airport for easy travel.

Lake of 2,344 Acres

Shagawa Lake stretches across 2,344 acres and features over 20 miles of shoreline. Its pristine waters can be as deep as 48 feet. Many islands are about the water, along with peninsulas and inlets around the shore.

Activities On Shagawa

Pontoons, jet skis, speed boats, kayaks, canoes, and other watercraft travel the lake. People have a grand time getting pulled on skis, wakeboards, and inflatables along the stretch.

Semer's Beach Park is a great place to stop for a swim. The park also features a playground and picnic pavilion.

Anglers at Shagawa catch walleye, northern pike, perch, largemouth bass, and more. In the winter, the lake is used for ice fishing, ice skating, snowshoeing, and more.

Explore the Lake Area

Located in Ely, the Trezona Hiking Trail wraps around Miners Lake. The scenic path takes around two hours to hike or can be made faster on a bike.

At the North American Bear Center on the southern shore of the lake, you can observe beautiful bears in natural habitats.

Golfers can play an 18-hole game at the Ely Golf Course. The Hidden Valley Chalet is a nearby ski resort where you can ski, snowboard, or tube down snowy hills.
