Access to Two States

Richard B. Russell, also known as Lake Russell, is on the Georgia-South Carolina state line. It is located about an hour and forty minutes from Greenville, South Carolina, and two and a half hours from Atlanta, Georgia.

On the South Carolina side of the lake, residents can access the Abbeville Area Medical Center and the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport.

On the Georgia side of the lake, residents can access the Elbert Memorial Hospital and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Camping, boating, and hiking are all popular at this 26,650-acre reservoir. In addition, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing are centered around the lake's 540 miles of shoreline.

Lake Richard B. Russell supports both warm-water species and cold-water species of fish including bass, catfish, crappie, trout, sunfish, perch, and stripers.

Richard B. Russell State Park offers lake residents a myriad of outdoor activities to enjoy. This park truly has it all from campgrounds, cottages, hiking trails, and a swimming beach to disc golf and a traditional golf course.
