Birch Lake is a natural splendor of Babbit, Minnesota. The gorgeous body of water runs for 21 miles and covers over 7,000 acres.

Nearby Babbit is convenient for its shops, eateries, and grocery establishments. The city of Virginia is just an hour away, where there is the Essential Health Hospital, Thunderbird Mall, Mesabi Range College, and more.

A Stunning Expanse

The lake has just under 100 miles of shoreline, and much of Birch Lake is left undeveloped, which means endless views of natural landscapes and plenty of land for hiking.

You can see many different types of boats on Birch Lake like pontoons, speed boats, fishing boats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes, and more. Some of its most exciting water activities are water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing.

The lake features many sandy islands where you can hang out or take a swim. Anglers can also take advantage of the lake's walleye, northern pike, and crappie.

Birch Lake RV Park-Campground, Timber Bay Lodge & Houseboats, and Mattila's Birch Lake Resort are places for visitors to stay.

Northwest of the Lake, Bear Head Lake State Park offers 17 hiking trails, nine miles of cross-country ski trails, and a snowmobile trail. It also offers 23 miles of lakeshore along with a beach.

Anglers can choose from a variety of fishing spots around the shore. You can stay in one of the park's camper cabins or vacation homes; or, bring your RV, camper, or tent to stay on one of their campsites.
