Androscoggin Lake is in Wayne and Leeds, Maine, with Androscoggin and Kennebec Counties on either side. Augusta is under 30 miles away for a quick trip to the city.

The Portland International Jetport is under 60 miles away, and under 30 miles away is the St. Mary's Regional Medical Center and the Central Maine Medical Center.

Groceries and snacks can be found at several markets and stores within 20 miles. Locals recommend restaurants such as TJ’s Pizzeria, Fast Eddies Drive In, Winthrop Roast Beef, and Kongs Village.

Popular activities include boating, kayaking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and relaxing on the shore.

Personal watercraft are not allowed so boats with engines of more than 15 horsepower are illegal including speedboats, jet skis, and hovercrafts.

Anglers looking to toss out a line can find brown trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, white perch, yellow perch, chain pickerel, hornpout, smelt, landlocked alewife, eel, white sucker, minnows, golden shiner, cusk, and pumpkinseed sunfish.

The many sandy beaches make it popular with swimmers, and a boat landing is located at the Yacht Club in the village of Wayne.

The lake has four islands named Androscoggin Island, Blodgett Island, Lothrop Island, and Norris Island. The islands have a diverse variety of rare species and are nesting habitats for bald eagles, ospreys, and great blue herons.

Explore Nature

Outdoorsmen and women should be sure to go to Gott Pasture Preserve Trailhead, seven minutes away. This preserve has well-maintained, manageable trails and water access.

Visit Augusta

Fort Western is home to the country’s oldest wooden garrison building, which was built in 1754. Old Fort Western is a living history museum offering tours, hands-on activities, and unique interactive experiences involving the history of New England during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

For outdoor enthusiasts, visit Viles Arboretum, a park with six miles of trails, over 200 species of trees to observe, and wildlife all on this 224-acre garden.

Golf enthusiasts should check out Belgrade Lakes Golf Club, an 18 hole course considered one of the top courses in Maine and New England. It includes fabulous greens and fairways and beautiful scenes of nature.
