Horn Pond is a quiet and scenic lake on the border between New Hampshire and Maine, perfect for any lake lovers eager for a secluded getaway from the city or suburbs.

It is in Acton, Maine and Wakefield, New Hampshire. For big-city adventures, the lake is under 60 miles from Portland and Concord.

The Portland International Jetport and the Portsmouth International Airport are under 50 miles away for easy travel. If medical care is needed, the Huggins Hospital and the SMHC Sanford are under 25 miles away.

On the Water Fun

Horn Pond spans 227 acres and offers plenty of lake fun for residents. It is both spring-fed and fed by the outflows of Great East Lake and Wilson Lake.

Anglers looking to toss out a line can find brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, eastern chain pickerel, brown bullhead, white perch, and bluegill.

Explore Portland

The nearby city of Portland is teeming with history, great food, and museums.

A great draw is Old Port. This neighborhood has cobblestone roads and still features some original buildings from the 19th century. With great shopping and only steps away from the wharf, which brings in some of the best seafood in the world, Old Port is a must-visit destination.

Consider going on one of Portland’s many brewery tours, or visit the Portland Museum of Art. Featuring artists such as Andy Warhol and Claude Monet, this museum’s website states that with more than 18,000 pieces, it would take visitors almost 10 years to see everything in the museum.

Built-in 1807 the Portland Observatory is the country’s last remaining maritime signal tower. At a height of 86 feet, the observatory offers great views of the coastline and the city.

Explore Concord

Concord, the capital city of New Hampshire, has lots to offer residents of Horn Pond.

The top attraction is the independently owned Red River Theatre. This theatre offers screenings of independent films as well as classic movies.

Those more interested in live performances should head to Capitol Center for the Arts. There they will find ballet, country, rock, and Broadway performances.

Another attraction is the Mcauliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, named after Christina Mcauliffe and Alan Shepard. This museum features interactive indoor and outdoor exhibits as well as a planetarium.
