Known for exceptional fishing, Lake Monona has healthy populations of northern pike, bluegill, and some prehistoric fish such as lake sturgeon. The lake is usually frozen from December to mid-April, during which ice-fishing is a popular way to pass the winter months.

Tenney Park, James Madison Park, Mendota County Park, Marshall Park, Picnic Point, and Lake View Hill Park, among others, are great options for spending time in the sun, going on a hike, or just taking in the nature around you! You can also go to one of the public beaches around the lake!
