Waitts Lake

Stevens County, Washington

Waitts Lake is located next to Valley, Washington, just a little over an hour away from Spokane.

The beautiful 472-acre lake in the mountainous and forestry Northeast Washington is a family-friendly location and an excellent spot for fishermen.

The area is a little over an hour away from the Spokane International Airport and just around 15 minutes away from Providence St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Record-Breaking Fishing

Waitts Lake is chock-full of fish. It holds the state record for rainbow trout and has maintained that record for a whopping 50 years. It also contains German brown trout, largemouth bass, yellow perch, brown bullhead, and pumpkinseed sunfish.

Activities for All Times of the Year

Fishing isn’t all that Waitts Lake has to offer. In the summer, residents of Waitts Lake participate in watersports including motor boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, and swimming.

Hikers and bikers can also take advantage of the 4.5-mile trail that loops around the exterior of the lake.

There are also multiple private resorts, campgrounds, and golf courses at a reasonable distance.

In the colder months, residents take part in snowmobiling and skiing. There are various trails close by for such activities and the 49 Degree North Mountain Ski Resort begins operating in mid-January.

The Chewelah Casino, which is only 15 minutes away from Waitts Lake, offers both machine and table games for anyone eager to try their luck as well as food and drinks.

In the Heart of Nature

Little Pend Oreille Natural Refuge, about an hour away, is a 41,568-acre breeding ground for migratory birds. The refuge is home to over 206 unique species including golden eagles, northern goshawks, and even bald eagles. In addition to birdwatching, visitors can view wildlife, go horseback riding and during the winter, go cross country skiing.

An hour and a half away is the Colville National Forest, which is over a million acres. Visitors have many activities to choose from including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing.
