About Lake Cushman

By the Olympic National Forest

Lake Cushman is a 4,010-acre lake and reservoir on the north fork of the Skokomish River in Mason County, Washington. This lake has initially been a broadening of the Skokomish River formed in a glacial trough and became dammed by a terminal moraine from the last ice age. Lake Cushman was enlarged in the 1920s after Cushman Dam was built.

Known for its Beauty and Recreation

Lake Cushman is well-known for its beautiful blue water and the thick hemlock, fir, and cedar trees surrounding its shore. The lake is the perfect spot for hiking due to the sizable mountains overlooking its clear water.

On the lake, you can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and boating.

Explore the Olympic National Forest & Park

Lake Cushman rests on the southern edge of the famous Olympic National Forest. The park encompasses nearly a million acres that protect a vast wilderness, thousands of years of human history, and several distinctly different ecosystems. You can explore over 70 miles of wild coastline, glacier-capped mountains, and old-growth rainforests. Boating, fishing, tide pooling, camping, hiking, backpacking, wildlife viewing, winter activities, and night sky programs are all enjoyed in the park.
