About Horseshoe Lake - Woodland

On the Washington-Oregon State Border

Horseshoe Lake is known for its unique shape, where the body of water gets its name. The lake is shaped like a horseshoe and covers 83.30 acres near the southern border of Washington. Horseshoe Lake bordered Highway 99 and was originally a part of the Lewis River, which sits on the opposite side of the highway. The lake was cut off from the Lewis River during the highway construction in 1940. Water is now pumped into the lake from a culvert.

Horseshoe Lake is conveniently located under 45 minutes from the famous city of Portland, Oregon. Lake residents can easily take a day trip to the city or plan a weekend road trip!

Fishing

Fishing is one of the more popular activities to enjoy on Horseshoe Lake! The lake is regularly stocked with a list of different fish species, including grass carp, rainbow trout, plus larger rainbow broodstock. The lake also supports populations of largemouth bass! You might even get catch black crappie, bluegill, brown bullhead, brown trout, coho salmon, common carp, northern pikeminnow, pumpkinseed sunfish, signal crawfish, steelhead, warmouth, white crappie, white sturgeon, and yellow perch.

For shoreline fishing, the city park provides ample room for you to walk the shore. There is also a public boat launch for recreational boating only-- the lake is a no-wake zone.
