Big City Lake

Fivemile Lake is an urban-based lake located between Tacoma and Seattle. The lake is west of Tacoma, south of Seattle, and is a 22-minute drive from the SeaTac International Airport.

The lake area is developed with the lake located in such an urban spot between two large cities and multiple smaller ones. Therefore, the lake offers plenty of activities and amenities.

Many of the venues near the lake are water-themed or water-inspired. For example, there are a few different water venues near the lake: Wild Waves Theme & Water Park, West Hylebos Wetlands Park, and Maury Island Aquatic Reserve.

Fivemile Lake is also near other lakes that provide fishing and watersports, including Lake Tapps to the southeast and lakes Geneva and Killarney to the north.

Water, Recreation, and Art

As aforementioned, many of the activities near the lake take place on the water.

One of the largest attractions sits on Maury Island, located north of Commencement Bay, known as Maury Island Aquatic Reserve. The reserve offers numerous public access areas for a variety of activities. There are over 5,500 acres of state-owned aquatic land at the park.

Additionally, the park is home to a large variety of species. These include multiple types of forage fish species, shellfish, birds, and more. The park is observed closely by the state government to ensure the conservation of the land and animal species.

Fishing is also popular in the area and especially on Fivemile Lake. The lake has a good reputation for containing a large selection of fish. These include largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, perch, sunfish, and trout.

Fivemile Lake is a short drive away from the Museum of Glass for those who enjoy the art scene. The Emerald Queen Casino is just to the west of the lake off of I-5 in Tacoma.

Less Seclusion, More Recreation

Fivemile Lake is not a lake known for being secluded away in a remote part of Washington but rather in bustling cities and towns. For those looking for recreational activities, Fivemile Lake and the surrounding area has an ample supply.

Accessing Fivemile Lake is easy, with an airport less than 30 minutes away and plenty of roads surrounding it.
