Lake Anna is the second-largest lake in Virginia, spanning 17 miles with 200 miles of shoreline. It's mostly in Louisa and Spotsylvania counties, but a small portion lies in Orange County.

Richmond is under 70 miles away, but residents can also visit nearby Charlottesville and Fredericksburg.

The Richmond International Airport is under 80 miles away, and the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is under 30 miles away.

The Lake Anna State Park is a must-see with sandy beaches, swimming areas, walking trails, hiking trails, and more.

There are two sections of Lake Anna, a public side of around 9,000 acres and a private side of around 4,000 acres. The public side has waterfront marinas, restaurants, gas pumps, public launches, and other businesses accessible by boat. The private side does not allow commercial operation and you must be a property owner to access the water.

A top attraction nearby is George Washington’s Ferry Farm. Ferry Farm is the name of the farm that was George Washington’s boyhood home. Unfortunately, the home suffered a fire, but a replica was constructed on the original site and is open to the public.

Those with an interest in the Civil War should visit Fredericksburg Battlefield and Chatham Manor.

Those looking to reconnect with nature have many options near the lake area. These include Widewater State Park, Aquia Landing Park, Government Island, and Crow’s Nest Natural Area Preserve.

Explore Richmond

The nearby city of Richmond is teeming with historical sites. Monument Avenue and the White House of the Confederacy provide historical information concerning the early days of the United States.

The top Richmond attraction is Maymont, a 100-acre estate featuring a Japanese garden, petting zoo, carriages, and the Dooley Mansion is available for tour.

Carytown, a popular city district, is home to unique shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The historic Byrd Theater, which was built in 1928, is celebrating over 90 years of service.

The Virginia Museum of Art has free admission and features pieces whose creation dates back to 5,000 years.
