Sunset Lake is located in Brookfield, Vermont, just six miles from an exit on I-89.

The Central Vermont Medical Center is 15 miles away in Berlin along with Walmart, CVS, many restaurants, shops, and more.

The Burlington International Airport is just under an hour’s drive from the lake.

Home of Vermont’s Only Floating Bridge

Sunset Lake is home to the only floating bridge in the east, the Brookfield Floating Bridge.

Luther Adams sought the construction of the first bridge in 1820. Over winter, he and his crew made a pontoon bridge of wooden logs across the ice, and when the ice melted, the bridge stayed afloat.

The newest version was built in 2015 and is made to support even a 12-ton truck. It features a driving path and sidewalks with railings. The bridge is not drivable during winter.

Boating and Fishing

Sunset Lake is a scenic place to paddle in a kayak or canoe. Its shores are rich with hardwoods and dotted with beautiful homes. In the fall, the trees turn vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow.

Anglers can expect to catch a variety of largemouth and smallmouth bass, yellow perch, and trout. The floating bridge is a popular fishing spot.

Allis State Park is located under five miles from the lake. The park features a fire tower overlook along with several hiking trails.

Liberty Orchard is also located in Brookfield. The orchard features a great variety of sweet, tart, and crisp apples.
