On the New York and Vermont Border

Lake St. Catherine is a beautiful, well-known lake in Rutland County, Vermont. This lake rests in both the towns of Poutney and Wells and is less than 30 minutes from Manchester, Vermont.

To early settlers, this body of water was known as Lake Austin. The name was changed at some point to Wells Lake, and finally, to Lake St. Catherine in 1967.

The Burlington International Airport is around two hours north, and the Rutland Regional Medical Center is about 40 minutes northeast.

Swimming, Fishing, and Boating

Lake St. Catherine is an all-sports lake with a variety of activities to do. Residents and visitors enjoy boating and fishing, as well as water sports like jet skiing.

On the northern end of the lake is a sandy beach perfect for swimming and lounging. There are also camping areas, hiking trails, and small boat rentals.

Around the Area

Located on the shoreline is the Lake St. Catherine Country Club that features activities like golfing, dining, and golf tournaments.

Only a few minutes up the road is the Whaleback Vineyard, a nine-acre winery that offers events for wine fans such as wine tasting and winemaking. They even have homebrewing supplies to make your perfect blend!
