Lake Eligo

Orleans County, Vermont

Lake Eligo, or Little Eligo Pond as it is known to locals, is a smaller gem of a lake located in Craftsbury and Greensboro, Vermont.

The lake covers a total area of 174 acres and contains a top and average depth of 100 and 28 feet, respectively.

Being that this lake is located only a few short miles from the Canadian border, popular Canadian cities such as Montreal and Sherbrooke are within an hour from the waterfront.

Popular Boating Lake

Unlike many smaller lakes across the United States, Lake Eligo has an active motor boating community.

All manner of motorized watercraft are permitted in this lake, but lake management staff requires that all vehicles display proper permits at all times.

There are two no-wake zones on the eastern and western shorefronts of Lake Eligo, and it is here that the lake's swimming and fishing areas are in effect.

Teeming with Fish

Given that this lake does allow motor boating, noise in most areas is quite boisterous and makes for poor fishing conditions. However, the two no-wake zones of this lake provide a quiet environment for anglers to make their big catch.

Popular sport fish to be found in Lake Eligo include large- and smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, lake trout and walleye.
