South Overton Lake

Smith County, Texas

South Overton Lake is one of two side-by-side reservoirs located in Overton, Texas. Tyler and Longview are only 30 minutes away for easy trips to bigger cities.

The lake is 18 minutes from Roy H Laird Memorial Hospital and around 30 minutes from East Texas Regional Airport.

On and Around the Lake

South Overton Lake is right next to North Overton Lake and the Overton City Park. The City of Overton RV Park is also conveniently located nearby.

Fishing is allowed on the lake, and the most popular catch is largemouth bass.

The City of Kilgore

Though Overton is small, the nearby town of Kilgore has a lot to offer.

At Kilgore College is the East Texas Oil Museum, which showcases the unique history of East Texas oil country and features actual antiques donated by East Texas citizens. Visitors can also explore Boomtown, USA, a themed town of stores, people, animals, and machinery.

If oil doesn’t interest you, the Texas Museum of Broadcasting and Communications focuses on vintage broadcasting memorabilia and equipment. One major exhibit is the “Lee Harvey Oswald” camera that was present at Oswald’s assassination.

In Historic Downtown Kilgore, visitors can experience more of the rich history associated with the East Texas oil boom. The area is home to various boutiques, local restaurants, and the "World's Richest Acre Park," where the greatest concentration of oil wells in the world once stood.
