About Lake Bridgeport

Wise and Jack Counties, Texas

Lake Bridgeport is a man-made 11,954-acre lake on the West Fork of the Trinity River. Its maximum depth is 85 feet and it has a 12-foot average annual fluctuation.

The lake is located in an area of the same name and is under two hours from Fort Worth and Dallas. Faith Community Hospital is less than an hour away from Lake Bridgeport and the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is a little less than two hours away.

On The Water

The lake is a popular choice for those who enjoy watersports and boating. Fishing is also a popular activity. Anglers can expect to possibly reel in largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, spotted bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, channel catfish, crappie, and sunfish.

There are multiple paddling trails on the southern part of the lake including the Chupacabra and Bridgeport Falls. Each is accessible by both canoes and kayaks.

Outdoor Activities

There are a few opportunities for Lake Bridgeport residents to ride dirt bikes and ATVs.

The Twin Hills Cycle Ranch offers 2,000 acres of rugged and hard-packed terrain. They offer a variety of difficulties and camping is permitted with a fee. For larger vehicles, the Northwest OHV Park is open to SUVs, UTV and Jeeps and is around 300 acres.

There are several trails for hiking and equestrian activities in the area. The Sid Richardson Scout Ranch is nearby, which includes multiple campsites and more trails.

The Runaway Bay Golf Club and Resort is on the southwest side of the lake and is constructed around a beautiful Texas landscape. The course includes 18 holes, a practice putting green, and a covered open-air driving range.

Local Lore

Residents of Lake Bridgeport keep a close eye out for the legendary Chupacabra, a mysterious creature that sucks the blood from cows and goats and has been allegedly spotted throughout the Americas. A maintenance worker around Lake Bridgeport reported to have spotted the creature in 2010, but it turned out to be a hairless raccoon.

Don’t Fret!

Don’t worry, the Bridgeport area isn’t riddled with monsters, as far as residents know. Rather, it’s a very decent place to live. Bridgeport schools are well-ranked and the area is said to be good for families.
