Tucked away in the wooded hills of East Texas lies the beautiful Houston County Lake. Centered two hours from Dallas or Houston and three hours from Austin, this lake is an ideal weekend retreat.

Houston County Lake was created in 1966 to supply water to the small towns of Crockett, Grapeland, and Latexo. Today, the lake is fed exclusively by the Little Elkhart Creek, and spans over 1,330 acres.

The lake features 25 miles of natural shoreline, decorated with rich, towering pines. Its numerous coves and clean, cool water has made it a favorite for lake lovers.

Boating, Swimming, Fishing

Houston County Lake has earned a reputation for excellent fishing. With plentiful species of largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and sunfish, the lake has something for every level of fisherman.

Fishing is not all that Houston County Lake has to offer. Boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, sailing and most any water sport can be enjoyed on the lake.

For beautiful and well maintained hiking trails, the Davy Crockett National Forest offers over 160,000 acres of east Texas woodlands, streams, wildlife habitats, hiking and horse trails, and recreation areas.

After a sun-filled day at the lake, drive only 10 miles to explore the charming city of Crockett.
