Beautiful Lake in Northwest South Carolina

Covering more than 18,370 acres in Northwest South Carolina, Lake Keowee has more than 300 miles of shoreline in Oconee and Pickens counties.

Clemson, a college town of almost 14,000, is less than twenty minutes away. The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is around 50 miles away, and the Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital is under 20 miles away.

Created in 1973, Lake Keowee was formed to serve the needs of Duke Energy, producing hydroelectric power as well as for public recreational purposes.

The lake collects waters from the Keowee River and Little River, which outflow at their respective dams and are tributaries to the Savannah River.

Great Weather, Great Scenery

At Lake Keowee the average high temperature is 72° or above for seven months out of the year, allowing ample time to enjoy the pristine mountain water.

It is also home to two state parks, numerous golf courses, and a short drive from the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Great Boating, Fishing, and Camping

One of South Carolina's best places to boat, Lake Keowee offers nine different boat ramps located throughout the area.

Many describe the lake's layout as a "Christmas tree" with numerous inlets, fingers, and coves, as well as expanses of open water reaching up to three miles wide.

Lake Keowee is an excellent place to fish for bass including largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted. Also present are crappie, bluegill, yellow perch, catfish, brown trout, and rainbow trout.

The area also offers many camping options, including the Toxaway State Park which features primitive or RV camping, as well as a cabin for rent just off the shores of Lake Keowee.

Explore Greenville

An hour away, Greenville is the thriving center of upstate South Carolina and is home to countless entertainment options, making it an idyllic setting for any daycation.

Greenville visitors can take in the natural aesthetic of the Falls Park on the Reedy in downtown Greenville’s Historic West End. The park is home to beautiful waterfalls, gardens, and unique public sculptures.

Music and theater fans alike will enjoy the Peace Center, a nonprofit theater that premiers a variety of top-class music and plays. The venue is also known to host events.

Additionally, Clemson University, one of the state’s premier universities, is just a short drive away. Football fans can tailgate on Saturdays in the fall before football games and watch the Tigers play in Death Valley.

Clemson has recently become a consistent playoff contender and a powerhouse NCAA Division 1 football team, winning two of the last five national championships.
