A Lake with History

The lake was named after Fort Gibson, a historical site just five miles off the shore. The fort was host to negotiations, interactions, and confrontations between the military and Native Americans.

Its construction began in 1942 and was halted for 11 years due to World War II. Now, the dam site is a popular nesting spot for gulls, waders, and eagles.
