Moss Lake

Located in Halifax County, North Carolina

Moss Lake is located just 40 miles east of Charlotte between Shelby and Kings Mountain, North Carolina. This beautiful lake also has 57 miles of shoreline and 1,660 acres of water. The lake's depth, on average, is 50 ft., and it has ten public boat ramps to prep for the perfect lake day.

Fish Frenzy

Stocked with heaping bass and crappie, the lake is a favored host of fishing tournaments. The sloping shoreline is perfect for putting in a kayak or canoe. Fishing permits are required for children six and older, and a North Carolina fishing license for anyone sixteen or older.

Activities for Everyone

Cleveland Country Club, Club Woodbridge, and Kings Mountain Country Club are local country clubs for those who like the greens. (Farthest being Kings Mountain Country Club at 13 minutes) The U.S. National Whitewater Center is on the Catawba River outside Charlotte. In addition to white water rafting, the park offers zip lining, rock climbing, mountain biking, roping, kayaking, and more. (40 minutes from Moss Lake).

Charlotte is home to Carowinds Theme Park, the U.S. National Whitewater Center, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Discovery Place Science, the Billy Graham Library, and many other attractions. (About 48 minutes to Charlotte)

There is a variety of great local restaurants at Moss Lake. These good eats include an award-winning barbecue restaurant specializing in slow-cooked pork since 1946. Check out the Beehive Cafe of Shelby as well, as it’s a mom-and-pop cafe with a great family atmosphere. There’s also Cleveland Mall (seven minutes) to get a shopping spree in. There are appealing stores such as Belk and Bath & Body Works. For movie watchers, there’s even an AMC theatre within the mall.

The nearest airport to Moss Lake is Charlotte Douglas International Airport (33.1 miles) for commercial flights and Shelby-Cleveland County Regional Airport (9.9 miles) for private flights. Atrium Health Cleveland is a 24-7 hospital only about 5.9 miles away from Moss Lake.
