In North Carolina, it touches Halifax, Northampton, and Warren counties; in the Virginia portions, it is in Brunswick and Mecklenburg counties. Just 90 miles away is Raleigh, North Carolina, offering big city amenities.

Watersport Friendly

Boating is one of the most popular activities on Lake Gaston. People love bringing out their motorboats, sailboats, jet skis, and more here! Watersports, such as wakeboarding, water skiing, and tubing, are a favorite pastime of Lake Gaston frequenters! There are several public boat ramps and marinas around the lake to launch or rent boats from.

Anglers also have a good time at Lake Gaston. It is most well known for its excellent largemouth bass population. People have great success fishing for largemouth bass near the boating docks at Lake Gaston. Other species of fish here include crappie, striped bass, walleyes, channel catfish, blue catfish, chain pickerel, and bluegill. Anglers usually find it more productive to fish in February and March in Lake Gaston.

Out on the Town

There is plenty to do around Lake Gaston. Nearby the lake, there are plenty of golf/country clubs, campgrounds, hiking trails, etc. To eat, you can try out WatersView Restaurant and The Point of Lake Gaston, both of which feature outdoor lakeside dining, so you can enjoy the scenery while eating!

Down the road from Lake Gaston is Rosemont Vineyards and Winery in Virginia. Here, you can relax and enjoy wine tasting against the gorgeous backdrop of the vineyard.

Also close to Lake Gaston is the Roanoke Canal Museum and Trail in Roanoke Rapids, VA. Here you can take in the beautiful scenery along with historical canals and other structures.
