Beaver Lake is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just three miles north of the Asheville city center.

Asheville is full of tree-lined streets, charming restaurants, coffee houses, grocery markets, and various stores. It also houses the Asheville Regional Airport, Mission Hospital, and hotels.

A Magnificent Lake

Beaver Lake was created by the damming of Beaver Dam Creek in 1923. The lake has grown to 65 acres and has a depth of 28 feet.

The Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary is one of the best bird-watching locations in the city. Some of the sanctuary’s year-round inhabitants include blue jays, cardinals, white-breasted nuthatch, cedar waxwings, and goldfinches.

Lake View Park also has racks where you can leave your canoe, a dock, and a lakeside nature trail.

Fishing is a prevalent activity at the lake due to channel catfish, bullhead, and largemouth bass populations.

Enjoy the Outdoors

The Country Club of Asheville is adjacent to Beaver Lake. The location includes an 18-hole course, Olympic-sized swimming pool, fitness center, tennis courts, and rec rooms for kids and teens.

Blue Ridge Recreation Park is a national park located just below Asheville. It features scenic roadways, hiking trails, campgrounds, and animal exhibits.

Navitat Canopy Adventures offers two different zip-lining trails as well as an offroading tour.

Visiting the City

Asheville is a great destination for outdoor adventures, science routes, and cultural experiences for you and the family.

Residents and visitors can take a tour to learn the history of the city by trolley or walking. Other options are exploring the shopping scene at the Grove Market or indulging in the culinary creations at Isa’s French Bistro or Jettie Rae’s Oyster House.

The most famous tourist attraction in Asheville would be the Biltmore Estate. Explore the acres of gardens, walking, biking, or hiking trails around the estate. There is also a winery and playground available to visitors.
