Loon Lake is a peaceful, 560-acre lake in Warren County near the famous Lake George. This lake has a unique wishbone shape and an excellent atmosphere for residents to enjoy.

Loon Lake is approximately four miles from Chestertown, New York, and about 70 minutes from Albany, New York.

Prime Fishing and Boating

Fish in Loon Lake and you might find largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brown bullhead, northern pike, walleye, white sucker, pumpkinseed, rock bass, tiger musky, or panfish. Licensed anglers can fish from a boat or the public beach.

Lake is also a great place to spend a fun day on the boat. If you don't have a boat just yet, don't fret, Loon Lake Marina provides rentals for pontoon boats, ski boats, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, fishing boats, and they also do water ski/tube rentals.

There is even a public beach for sunbathing, picnicking, and beach sports. There is a shallow zone for swimming and a small boat launch for easy canoe and kayak access.

Cave Adventures

Ever wanted to try cave spelunking? Well, there is the perfect opportunity to do so just ten minutes north of Loon Lake.

Visit the Natural Stone Bridge Caves Park in Pottersville and marvel at the East's most extensive cave entrance, waterfalls, and a gorge. You can take a guided or unguided tour through the caves or enjoy the 14 miles snowshoe trail in the winter months.

Other Outdoor Fun

Caving isn't the only remarkable activity you can check out close to Loon Lake. In addition to caving, boating, fishing, and hiking, there's also horseback riding! Circle B Ranch in Chestertown provides family-friendly trail rides for all skill levels. It is one of the best ways to see remarkable mountain views.

Take the Chester Challenge

Chestertown, located just a few miles southeast of Loon Lake, is a great place to eat, stay, and enjoy local shops. It is also a prime location for hiking!

The Town of Chester set up a hiking challenge for visitors. When you hike any six of the eleven local trails, you report to the Town Clerk's office in Chester, the Dynamite Hill Recreation Center, or the Crossroads Store, and you'll receive a commemorative challenge pin.
