Lake Mahopac

Location and Access

Lake Mahopac is located in the town of Carmel, New York in Putnam County. This lake is 587-acres of beautiful waters and two islands for exploring.

On the Water Fun

Lake Mahopac is one of the only water bodies in the county that is accessible to the public. It also allows gas-powered crafts.

The shoreline is privately-owned, but access is available through the two marinas on the south shore. These marinas charge a fee to launch a boat.

The most popular fish species caught are largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and rock bass.

Around Lake Mahopac

Lake Mahopac offers a variety of attractions and amenities around the lake area. The Mahopac Golf Club and the Putnam County Golf Course are located nearby and offer their members full access to the club amenities.

Surrounding the lake are a couple of waterfront restaurants. Lakehouse Restaurant and Bar, Kobu Asian Bistro, Fort Brothers Pizza, and Bliss Dairy Bar & Grill are located on the edge of the lake area.

The landscape of the lake is unique, and there are two islands located in the lake. Petre Island and Canopus Island are available for water and outdoor recreational activities.

Necessary Amenities

Putnam Hospital is the closest to Lake Mahopac, being only a 13-minute drive away.

Residents also have the option of New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital and the Danbury Hospital, approximately half an hour away from traffic.

The New York Stewart International Airport is located just under an hour away.
