About Cayuga Lake

Longest of the Finger Lakes

Cayuga Lake is located within Ithaca, just over two hours from Buffalo and one hour from Rochester.

This lake covers over 42,000 acres of surface area and reaches depths up to 435 feet, making it the second deepest of the Finger Lakes. It also has a shoreline of 96 miles, making it the longest of the Finger Lakes.

This lake is not unique because of its size, but it also has over seven lakes within a few miles of its shore, including Lake Ontario.

Swimming, Fishing, and Boating

Cayuga Lake is a popular destination for boating, swimming, fishing, and other water sports due to its large size.

This lake is an excellent spot for trout and salmon fishing because of the colder waters found in the lake's deeper areas. Many of Cayuga's tributaries also offer a spring rainbow trout fishery and a fall landlocked salmon fishery. You can also find an abundance of perch, largemouth bass, and pickerel in the summer.

Drive the Scenic Byway

The Cayuga Lake Scenic Byway is an 87-mile loop surrounding Cayuga Lake that features the lake's scenic views, shores, and woodland landscapes. There are numerous historical, natural, and cultural attractions to stop at along the way.

If you want to take the boat instead of a car, the Cayuga Lake Blueway Trail is a public water recreation trail connecting non-motorized watercraft, including kayaks, standup paddleboards, canoes, and more on Cayuga Lake.

You can also take a wine tour on the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail. You can taste wine from over ten local wineries that sit along the shore of Cayuga Lake. Many of the wineries along the trail are award-winning and are considered a must-taste amongst local wine lovers.

A Scenic Way of Life

Whether you are looking to buy a family home, a full-time retirement residence, or a vacation rental, Cayuga Lake is an excellent choice.
