Location and Access

Middle Saranac Lake is one of the three lakes connected to the Saranac River. The other two lakes are Lower Saranac Lake and Upper Saranac Lake. There are a variety of attractions to do on the lake and around the lake.

Due to the location of Middle Saranac Lake, the Canadian border and city of Montreal are located just two and half hours away.

There are several small islands located in Middle Saranac Lake. The names of these islands are Halfway Island, Bartlett Island, First Island, Second Island, Norway Island, Shaw Island, and Ship Island.

On the Water Fun

The fishing opportunities in Middle Saranac Lake are great! Some of the most popular catches include northern pike, yellow perch, trout, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, and walleye. The best island for catching smallmouth bass is on and around Shaw Island.

Motorboat access is available at State Bridge Boat Landing, perfect for traveling between the three lakes.

Around Middle Saranac Lake

As a growing popular tourist destination, the area offers much more than just your average outdoor activities on the water and around the lake. There are historical sites, museum tours, and entertainment events that visitors can experience.

The Ampersand Mountain Trailhead is also near the lake. This trail is about 5.5 miles that visitors can enjoy and use for outdoor exercise.

Hospital and Airport

The Adirondack Health Hospital is 20 minutes away from Middle Saranac Lake. Located further out is the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Alice Hyde Hospital, UVM High Peaks Health Center, and the Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

Located closest to the lake is the Adirondack Regional Airport, and the Plattsburgh International Airport is an hour and 15 minutes north.

Explore Albany

Located two hours and 40 minutes south is Albany, known for its rich history and culture. Here, visitors can enjoy a fantastic shopping and dining scene, arts and entertainment buildings, museums and tours, and outdoor adventures.

Albany is home to many unique and historical tourist attractions. For those of age, Albany also invites you to explore the nightlife bar and club scenes!

The top-rated attraction here is the New York State Museum. This museum has a variety of different exhibits and has free admission.

Those with an interest in naval history should go on a tour at the USS Slater DE-776. This restored destroyer gives visitors unique insights as to what it was like to be a sailor back in the day.

"Hamilton" fans will be interested in the nearby Schuyler Mansion, home to Colonel Schuyler and his daughters Peggy, Angelica, and Eliza.
