Canandaigua Lake is conveniently located in Yates and Ontario County, New York. This lake covers over 10,000 acres of surface area with depths reaching up to 276 feet. Among its 36 miles of shoreline, almost 50 percent is covered in forest.

It is located conveniently close to Rochester, New York, and Lake Ontario. Both being only about a 45-minute drive away.

Canandaigua is the Seneca-language name for "Chosen Spot."

Canandaigua Lake is also excellent for fishing. Some of the lake fish include brown trout, lake trout, rainbow trout, black crappie, largemouth bass, and smallmouth bass.

A popular pastime for lake residents is boating or paddling to Squaw Island. This island is one of two islands located in the Finger Lakes. It is the smallest Fish and Wildlife Management Area in New York State and is one of the few places in the world where limestone oncolites form. The island used to be two square acres but has been drastically shrinking due to weather and erosion.
