The organization was originally founded as an orphanage for boys and is now dedicated to the care of children and families. The reservoir sits behind the Boys Town headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska.

Boys Town owns a national research hospital within walking distance of the lake, and the area is 30 minutes from Eppley Airfield, Omaha’s largest airport.

There are a number of grocery stores in the area including Hy-Vee, ALDI, Konark Grocers, and Family Fare Supermarket.
