Rainbow Lake is a small lake that is part of the Thompson Chain of Lakes, a 20-mile string of lakes in northern Montana. Kalispell is under 50 miles away.

The Thompson Chain of Lakes State Park encompasses most of the lakes nearby. The state park is 3,00 acres, inclusive of over 18 lakes, and has opportunities for swimming, boating, camping, water skiing, and camping.

The Thompson lakes are known for their fishing and provide boat launches for avid anglers eager to get on the water. Fish in the lake include brook trout, cutthroat trout, pike, perch, and largemouth bass.
