Big Horse Island is habited by deer, bighorn sheep, bears, and coyotes, along with 75 species of birds. Around the Bird Islands, you will see herons, geese, osprey, and eagles.

Legend has it that a 20 to 40-foot loch-ness monster roams the waters of Flathead Lake. The eel-like creature has been given the nickname Flathead Nessie.
