Rice lake is a serpentine-shaped lake located in Itasca County, Minnesota. It is located southwest of the small town of Cohasset and the much larger city of Grand Rapids. Grand Rapids, which doubles as the closest metropolitan city in the area, is only 10 miles away. The closest international airport is Duluth International Airport which is 85 miles away. The nearest hospital is Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, nine miles away.

What to do on the water

Rice Lake is 857 beautiful acres of water that allows for plenty of room to take out your boat, canoe, or kayak; alternatively, you could go for a swim or do some fishing. Fishing fans can look out for black bullhead, bluegill, brown bullhead, largemouth bass, northern pike, rock bass, walleye, yellow bullhead, yellow perch, pumpkinseed.

To the east of Rice Lake, closer to Grand Rapids, are several campgrounds and attractions for a more outdoors experience. Further north is Bass Brook Wildlife Management Area which serves as a nature preserve whose hiking trails are a moderate challenge. It neighbors Portage Park, which features four baseball fields.
