The Park Rapids Area is a well-kept secret among its residents and seasonal visitors. It is between the Leech Lake and Detroit Lakes tourist areas, so attractions are never far away.

In the City

The city of Park Rapids marks the center of the region. It is convenient for schools, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and Park Rapids Municipal Airport.

Its downtown features quaint restaurants like The Good Life Cafe, Necces Italiano Restaurante, Bella Caffe, and the Great Northern Cafe. It also houses the Park Theatre, a vintage movie theater that streams new-release films.

A Variety of Lakes

Fishhook Lake and Potato Lake are large, clearwater lakes on the edge of the city. They are popular locations for boating, water skiing, fishing, and swimming.

Mantrap Lake is a heavily forested lake with a unique shape. Its many peninsulas, islands, and inlets make it an exciting place to kayak or canoe and a comfortable place to get lost, hence the name “man-trap.”

Long Lake, Lower and Upper Bottle Lake, Sweitzer Lake, and the Crow Wing Lakes are other great lakes in the area.

Surrounded by Dense Forests

The Two Inlets State Forest, Paul Bunyan State Forest, and Huntersville State Forest surround the Park Rapids Area, leaving you hundreds of miles for hiking, biking, and offroading.

Some of the area’s most renowned hiking trails are the Heartland State Trail, Paul Bunyan State Trail, and the North Country National Scenic Trail.

ATVs will find hundreds of trails between the forests, but trails like the Forest Rider’s ATV Trail, Round River Drive ATV Trail, and Schoolcraft Trail are very distinct.
