Mule Lake is a beautiful recreational lake known for its excellent fishing opportunities. It is conveniently located along Minnesota Highway 84, across from Woman Lake.

Longville, Backus, Hackensack, and Pine River are within 20 miles of the lake, meaning shops, restaurants, markets, and pharmacies are a short drive away.

Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital, restaurants, stores, and many other conveniences are under 70 miles away in Grand Rapids. For international travel, the Duluth International Airport is under 150 miles away.

Blissful Waters, Untouched Forests

Mule Lake spans over 500 acres with clean, sparkling waters. It has seven miles of shoreline, which are lightly populated with homes and densely populated with trees.

The natural landscapes make a great view and attract a variety of wildlife. It is primarily managed for northern pike, walleye, and perch but also holds bass, bluegill, and crappie.

There are two public access points on the lake, one on the northeastern side and one on the southwestern side.

Nearby Woman Lake

Woman Lake is a popular destination for fishing and watersports among the people of Minnesota. With over 5,000 acres of water, there is plenty of room for everyone.

It is a top-rated fishing area that holds a wide variety of fish, including muskie. A public access point is located on its western shore.

Visit Grand Rapids

If you’re interested in learning the history of logging in this part of the state, head down to the Forest History Center. You can see a recreation of a white pine logging camp from 1900, listen to stories from loggers and forest service patrolmen from different eras, or get a bird’s eye view from a 100-foot fire tower.

Follow the yellow brick road to the Judy Garland Museum, where you can get a glimpse at the world’s largest Judy Garland and Wizard of Oz collection, including the world-famous ruby-red slippers from the movie.
