A Stunning Expanse of 14,000 Acres

Lake Minnetonka's breathtaking landscapes and proximity to the twin cities have made it a long-time getaway for celebrities and wealthy businesspeople. It was once home for President William Howard Taft.

With 14,000 acres of surface area, it is by far the largest lake in the metro area. Its shoreline winds for 125 miles along its bays, branches, and inlets.

Flourishing with Lake Activity

The waters of Minnetonka are host to all sorts of watersports. Powerboating, pontooning, water skiing, jet skiing, sailing, and fishing are just some of the daily activities.

Big Island is the lake's famous hangout where boaters gather to drink, swim, listen to music, and socialize. It is renowned enough to have its own "Tonka Paparazzi" that photographs the gatherings.

While it is a very active environment, some lake bays are more relaxed and quiet for fishing or kayaking. Anglers make catches of northern pike, walleye, muskies, and sunfish.

Lakeside Towns and Events

Locals and visitors have made excelsior a favorite stop for its down-home shops, boutiques, antique stores, and ice cream parlors.

Wayzata features lakeside restaurants like COV Wayzata, Gianni's Steakhouse, McCormick's Pub & Restaurant, and 6Smith.

The 4th of July Celebrations around Lake Minnetonka are incredible. Every town around the shore has a parade or celebration happening while some celebrate from their boats. Several locations put on firework displays when the sunsets.
