Crooked Lake is in Nashwauk Township and Lawerence Township, Minnesota.

The lake is within 30 miles of Grand Rapids and Hibbing, and both feature a variety of shops and restaurants.

Grand Rapids is home to the Grand Itasca Hospital and Itasca County Airport. The Duluth International Airport is approximately an hour and a half away.

Great, Deep Waters

Crooked Lake boasts 464 acres of water with water clarity at seven and a half feet. The uniquely shaped lake features nearly nine miles of densely wooded shoreline.

With a maximum depth of 60 feet, it holds a variety of fish, including northern pike, walleye, crappie, bluegill, perch, and bass.

Kayakers and canoers have lots to explore around the wavering shoreline, including a few small islands. Boaters also participate in fishing, swimming, and watersports.

If you’re interested in learning the history of logging in this part of the state, head down to the Forest History Center. You can see a recreation of a white pine logging camp from 1900, listen to stories from loggers and forest service patrolmen from different eras, or get a bird’s eye view from a 100-foot fire tower.

Follow the yellow brick road to the Judy Garland Museum, where you can get a glimpse at the world’s largest Judy Garland and Wizard of Oz collection, including the world-famous ruby-red slippers from the movie.
