Cass Lake spans 15,958 acres, offering residents tons of space for recreation and relaxation. The lake is the largest of the lakes included in the Cass Lake Chain of Lakes and the eighth largest lake in the state.

Visitors and residents can enjoy the Norway Beach Recreation Area, Cass Lake Campgrounds, Chippewa National Forest, a sandy beach, picnic areas, hiking trails, cross country skiing, and the 50-mile Heartland Snowmobile Trail.

The lake has five islands, including Star Island, Cedar Island, two Potato Islands, and a small unnamed island. Star Island has Lake Windigo, creating a lake within a lake.
