The waters of Big Stone Lake stretch 26 miles across the Minnesota-South Dakota Border.

Ortonville is on the south end of the lake, where there are restaurants, shops, medical establishments, and the Ortonville Municipal Airport.

Big Stone Lake is a long, slim body of water featuring 12,360 acres of water.

The sparkling expanse is famous for powerboating, water skiing, jet skiing, tubing, kayaking, and more.

Anglers come to the lake for white bass, walleye, northern pike, bluegill, crappie, rock bass, and more.

Lakeshore RV Park offers lots on and off the water along with a boat dock and slips.

Big Stone State Park

Big Stone State Park offers swimming beaches, fishing piers, and boat launches so everyone has a way to enjoy the water.

Wooded areas of the park are significant for hiking; the prairie is best for spotting unique birds along with rabbits, squirrels, deer, and more.

Across the lake, Hartford Beach State Park offers similar activities. Each park is home to a bathroom and shower house.

You can shop small-town stores in downtown Ortonville or get a sweet treat from Ligonberry’s Pastry & Coffee Shop. Visit the Ortonville Golf Course to golf, dine, or hang out with friends.

Ortonville is also host to CornFest, a three-day event that includes entertainment, food, beverages, music, and parades.

The Big Stone County Fair is held in Clinton every year, where you and the kids can enjoy rides, fried foods, and challenging games.
