Bass Lake - Deer Lake

Northeast of Grand Rapids

Bass Lake is located just below Deer Lake in Itasca County, Minnesota. Nearby Grand Rapids features shops, restaurants, hotels, and attractions and Grand Itasca Hospital and Itasca County Airport. The cities of Duluth or Bemidji are popular tourist destinations and just an hour from the lake.

Bass Lake is just one of the many recreational bodies of water in Itasca County.

While Bass Lake is home to a few lake resorts and a collection of houses, most of its shoreline remains undeveloped. Those on and off the lake treasure the forested shores.

The lake has 2,400 acres of water that can be traveled on pontoons, speed boats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes, or any other watercraft you desire.

Anglers come to Bass Lake for prize catches of bluegill and perch. Other fish of the lake include walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass, and sunfish. Like any other lake in Minnesota, ice fishing is just as popular here.

Recreation Off the Water

Residents can enjoy snowmobiling can be done on the frozen lake, or you can explore the many trails of Itasca County.

The Sylvan Point Trailhead is in Grand Rapids; the trail features mature pines, wild berries, and water sights.

Judy Garland from Wizard of Oz was born in Grand Rapids, where her childhood home still stands today. It is also a museum containing the largest amount of collectibles from the movie.

Other great stops are the Children’s Discovery Museum, Macrostie Art Center, or Historic Century School.

White Oak Casino is just a few miles west of Bass Lake in the city of Deer River.
