Hummer Lake

Located in Oakland County, Michigan

This natural lake is three miles south of Ortonville and about an hour outside Detroit. The lake itself is relatively small and spans about 35 acres.

For any medical needs, there are multiple urgent care clinics within 15-20 minutes of the area, as well as Pontiac General Hospital, which is about 30 minutes away. Oakland County International Airport is about a half-hour away as well as Bishop International.

On the Water

This lake has a diverse list of fish, including northern pike, smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, sunfish, perch, walleye, bream/bluegill, and crappie. Boating rules for this lake are unknown.

Explore the Area

This area is rural, however, it’s not without its local, small-town charm. Several local restaurants are within a couple miles of this location, such as BullFrogs Bar and Grille — a local favorite — Frothy Girl, O’Malley’s Galley Restaurant & Catering, Boat Bar, and Ken’s Coney Family Dining.

If you ever get tired of watching the sunset from your own private lake and want a change of scenery, head 10 minutes down the road to Independence Oaks County Park. This gorgeous park has opportunities for boating, fishing, and trails for hiking and skiing in the winter.

About six minutes away, Ortonville Recreation Area is a beautiful park area with campgrounds, a lake for fishing, a beach, as well as equestrian trails. Right next to it, Ortonville Shooting Range is a local favorite if you want to hone your skills with firearms.

Another great place to enjoy nature is Sutherland Nature Sanctuary. This sanctuary has brooks, ponds, grassland, and a short trail for visitors to enjoy and is only 15 minutes away.
