Boardman Lake is a 339-acre lake located in Traverse City, MI. It is less than 10 minutes away from the shores of the West Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. Traverse City is a little over four hours northwest of Detroit, MI. The city received its name from a nickname French settlers gave to the bay, La Grande Traverse, meaning the long crossing. Boardman Lake and its subsequent river are named after Capt. Horace Boardman, an Indiana native who purchased land around the lake in 1847. Horace, his son, and employees built a sawmill on the mouth of the river. In 1851 they sold it to the founding father of the city, Perry Hannah. The Cherry Capital Airport is only 10 minutes away in Traverse City. Munson Medical Center is 15 minutes away in Traverse City.

Boardman is reported as a great lake to fish with light angling traffic. Species noted to live here are walleyes up to 6 pounds, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, and more!
