Lake Auburn is in Auburn, Maine, under 40 miles from Augusta and Portland.

The Augusta State Airport is under 40 miles away, and the Portland International Jetport is under 45 miles away. The Central Maine Medical Center and the St. Mary's Regional Medical Center are within 10 miles.

On the Water Fun

Lake Auburn spans 2,260-acres and serves as the water supply for the Lewiston-Auburn area. While swimming and ice fishing are not allowed, residents can still enjoy plenty of lake fun.

Popular activities include boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and relaxing on the shoreline. There are public access points, but many homes have private docks to explore the water.

Anglers looking to toss out a line can find landlocked salmon, brook trout, lake trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, white perch, yellow perch, chain pickerel, hornpout, rainbow smelt, American eel, threespine stickleback, white sucker, golden shiner, common shiner, fallfish, banded killifish, and pumpkinseed sunfish.

Outdoor Adventures

The Auburn Riverwalk is a riverside walkway suited for any afternoon stroller, biker, or morning jogger. The trail is paved and facilitates views of the Androscoggin River and its waterfalls.

For a more rugged hike, adventurers can take on Mount Apatite. Though unpaved, the trail is relatively easy to walk and is child-friendly. When not viewing wildlife and natural scenery, visitors can look out upon the city.

Lost Valley provides a fun experience for skiers of all skill levels. The facility includes several slopes, a practice area, and a lodge.

Visit Portland

The nearby city of Portland is teeming with history, great food, and museums.

A great draw is Old Port. This neighborhood has cobblestone roads and still features some original buildings from the 19th century. With great shopping and only steps away from the wharf, which brings in some of the best seafood in the world, Old Port is a must-visit destination.

Consider going on one of Portland’s many brewery tours, or visit the Portland Museum of Art. Featuring artists such as Andy Warhol and Claude Monet, this museum’s website states that with more than 18,000 pieces, it would take visitors almost 10 years to see everything in the museum.

Built in 1807, the Portland Observatory is the country’s last remaining maritime signal tower. At a height of 86 feet, the observatory offers great views of the coastline and the city.

Visit Augusta

There are many attractions to visit in Augusta, the state's capital. It's the perfect spot for a daycation in the city.

Fort Western is home to the country’s oldest wooden garrison building, which was built in 1754. Old Fort Western is a living history museum offering tours, hands-on activities, and unique interactive experiences involving the history of New England during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

For outdoor enthusiasts, visit Viles Arboretum, a park with six miles of trails, over 200 species of trees to observe, and wildlife all on this 224-acre garden.

Golf enthusiasts should check out Belgrade Lakes Golf Club, an 18 hole course considered one of the top courses in Maine and New England. It includes fabulous greens and fairways and beautiful scenes of nature.
