Pokagon State Park borders much of Lake James's eastern shore. Its attractions include a campground, Potawatomi Inn, 11 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, or biking, snow-sledding slopes, and access to Lake James.

Residents and visitors flock to the waters of Lake James on the 4th of July. Hundreds of people gather on the lake's sandbar in floats, boats, and water for a grand daytime celebration. When nighttime comes, everyone gathers to watch a magnificent firework display over the waters.
