Bass Lake

Indiana's Third Largest Natural Lake

Bass Lake sits in the northwestern corner of Indiana in Starke County. It is 11.3 square miles in size and sits just over 50 miles from Lake Michigan's southernmost tip. The lake is relatively shallow, with an average depth of around six feet.

Fishing and Boating

This lake is actively stocked and managed by the Indiana state government. Local biologists work to create the best fishery possible in Bass Lake.

Despite its name, the most popular catches on this lake are black and white crappie, walleye, and bluegill. Like most natural lakes, there are populations of bass here, but they have lower people than the fish mentioned above.

Motorized boats are allowed on Bass Lake. Residents often enjoy a slow cruise on the pontoon boat during the Indiana sunsets. Other water sports, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing can also be enjoyed.

Tippecanoe River State Park

Just six miles south of Bass Lake is the perfect place to enjoy a day hike or a weekend stay. The river running through the Tippecanoe River State Park is known to be an excellent spot for kayakers and canoers.

While here, you can walk the 23 miles of trail, which can be walked by human or horse. Various camping opportunities include primitive, electric, camper cabins, horse sites, and youth tent areas.

If you aren't afraid of heights, there is a 90-foot viewing tower to give you the perfect view of the rolling countryside.
