East of the Chain O’Lakes

In northern Lake County of Illinois, East Loon Lake encompasses 184 acres of land with natural, glacial water. Along with East Loon Lake, nearby is Loon Lake, West Loon, and North Loon Lake.

East Loon Lake is conveniently located near the town of Antioch Lake, near the intersection of Route 83 and Grass Lake Road.

East Loon Lake has a maximum depth of 26–28 feet. It is slightly larger than its counterpart, West Loon Lake.

Fishing and Boating

Fishers will find a variety of fish including sunfish, carp, largemouth bass, panfish, perch, pickerel, pumpkinseed sunfish, crappie, northern pike, catfish, warmouth, pumpkinseed, walleye, bream/bluegill, bullhead, and rock bass on East Loon Lake.

Fly fishing, baitcasting, or spinning are all great methods to catch fish on East Loon Lake. So, don’t forget your rod the next time you visit!

Boating, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing can also be enjoyed on East Loon Lake.

One of the more popular attractions near East Loon Lake is the highly trafficked Chain O’Lakes waterway system. The Chain O’Lakes system is made up of fifteen lakes that all sit in Lake County, along with East Loon Lake. The Chain is reported to be the busiest inland recreational waterway per acre in the United States.
