Lake Wildwood is a private lake located in Varna, Illinois. It sits in a gated community, making it an excellent private hideaway for residents.

Community Amenities

There are two beaches for swimming and sun tanning maintained by the Lake Wildwood Homeowners Association. All residents of this community must be members of the association to enjoy the well-kept amenities.

Amenities include five boat launch ramps, an outdoor pool, tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts, a marina, a golf practice range, a fish cleaning facility, hiking trails, a private campground, and a lodge for group activities.

Recreation Options

Lake Wildwood spans 220 acres and is an all-sports lake. Members can enjoy water skiing, tubing, personal watercraft, and pontooning.

A second lake on the property, 18-acre Lake Tanglewood, is strictly a fishing and paddle-sports lake: only electric motors are allowed.

Anglers pursue largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, sunfish, channel catfish, white bass, bullheads, carp, flathead catfish, and hybrid striped bass, muskie, and northern pike. The HOA spends time to improve the local fish habitats and will even stock the lake accordingly.

Don’t you like to fish? Well, you’re in luck. There is a three-hole golf course nearby that is perfect for working on your putting.

The HOA also plans fun family events throughout the year to foster a healthy community environment. Seasonal events such as Easter egg hunts, picnics, fishing derbies, 4th of July fireworks, dances, swim parties, potlucks, Christmas parties, and fish fries are just some events held.

The city of Peoria is a short drive from Lake Wildwood, making it a fantastic daycation spot.

Located in the center of Illinois, there are many attractions for residents and visitors to see. It is known to be the largest city on the Illinois River which offers beautiful scenic views while still being downtown.

Some of the local favorite places in Peoria include the Peoria Riverfront Museum, Peoria Zoo, and the Luth Botanical Garden.
