Chain O'Lakes - Dunns Lake

Between Milwaukee and Chicago

Just below the Wisconsin state border sits Dunns Lake. Dunns Lake is one of the fifteen lakes that comprise the 7,000-acre Chain O'Lakes waterway system. The Chain is reported to be the busiest inland recreational waterway per acre in the United States.

Considered a part of the Chicagoland tourism region, Dunns Lake is a quieter lake in the system because of its distance from the more extensive, main waterways.

Covering 68 acres with three miles of shoreline, Dunns Lake allows its residents to enjoy living in the tranquil environment on a smaller lake with the amenities of more mammoth lakes nearby.

Lake Recreation

Because Dunns Lake doesn't attract the dense amount of boat traffic the larger Chain O'Lakes get, it is an ideal spot for swimming, sun-bathing, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking.

Dunns Lake is an especially right spot to catch panfish, but other areas in the Chain are home to yellow perch, walleye, northern pike, muskellunge, largemouth bass, bluegill, white and black crappie, white and yellow bass, and channel catfish.

Boating, ice fishing, skiing, biking, picnicking, ice skating, hunting, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and hiking can all be enjoyed around Dunns Lake. This lake truly has something for everyone.

Nearby is the 840-acre Chain O'Lakes State Park. This park borders three of the Chain lakes and neighbors a 3,230-acre conservation area.

Trails for hiking and horseback riding cover the 2,450-acre park, which also offers overnight campgrounds. Hunting is permitted in the season for doves and waterfowl; there is an archery season for deer. Visitors can even have fun in the winter when there are ice fishing and cross-country skiing.
