Big Bear Lake can be found in Vernon Hills, Illinois, under an hour from Chicago, Illinois. The lake is located in Century Park Arboretum, the largest park in the district, and next to Little Bear Lake.

The Big Bear and Little Bear Loop is a 1.7 mile lightly trafficked trail perfect for all skill levels looking to exercise with a view.

Century Park Arboretum features two lakes, walking/biking trails, barbecue grills, a boat launch, a playground, restrooms, picnic areas, ball fields, a volleyball court, a half basketball court, plenty of parking, and more.

Entertainment Options

History buffs should visit the beautiful Cuneo Museum and Gardens to view the Cuneo family collection of fine art and furnishings, set in a beautiful 100-acre estate. The museum now belongs to Loyola University Chicago.

Sportsmen should be sure to go to either White Deer Run Golf Club or Vernon Hills Golf Course to have some fun off the water.

The Hawthorn Mall has over 120 stores, perfect for a family shopping trip or a relaxing day out.
