West Point Lake

Bordering Two States

West Point Lake is a large lake on the Alabama-Georgia border, around an hour from Columbus and just an hour and a half from Montgomery.

The Columbus Airport is under 60 miles away, and under 30 miles away are the WellStar West Georgia Medical Center and the Lanier Health Services.

On and Around the Water

West Point Lake extends 35 miles along the Chattahoochee River and provides excellent fishing, camping, boating, and other outdoor activities.

Abundant largemouth bass, managed under special regulation to maintain a high population, makes West Point Lake an excellent choice for anglers of almost any skill level. They also host Major League Fishing events! Beyond the plentiful largemouth, there is also plentiful spotted bass, striped bass, catfish, crappie, and bream.

Along the upper end of the lake, a wildlife management area of nearly 10,000 acres is open to the public for both wildlife observation and hunting, which is allowed in a specific Corps-managed area. White-tailed deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, rabbit, and quail are commonly observed on the land.

Nestled among the lake's outstanding features are 27 parks and recreation areas and seven campgrounds, set among a forest of mixed pine and hardwoods. Amenities at these facilities are tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, fishing piers, picnic shelters, and swimming beaches. Not to mention the numerous restaurants for fine and casual dining.

Explore Columbus

The city of Columbus has many different tourist attractions to entertain the whole family. The National Infantry Museum near Fort Benning champions the history of the United States Army, from the Revolutionary War to the conflict in the Middle East, exhibiting artifacts from all eras of American wartime history.

The Chattahoochee Riverwalk is a 15 miles linear park that runs from Lake Oliver to the Infantry Museum. The trail offers a one-of-a-kind tour, including 31 challenge geocaches with collector game pieces.

The Coca-Cola Space Science Center entails the WestRock Observatory, Georgia’s premier public observatory. It also includes over 30 portable telescopes as well as a planetarium system, and a remotely controllable solar observatory.

Explore Montgomery

Montgomery is rich in history and a great place to learn from museums and tours. Visit the Civil Rights Memorial and Rosa Parks Library and Museum for an educational afternoon. Explore Montgomery's entertainment venues with the downtown Amphitheater, Blount Cultural Park, and Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts.
