Lake Lanier is one of the best boating spots in the country. All kinds of boats, from power boats to kayaks, are allowed. There are no speed limits on Lake Lanier, so watersports like jet skis and wakeboarding are enjoyed by many on this lake. There are also many peaceful, scenic places around the lake for paddle boarding. You can get your boat in the water at the several boat ramps around Lake Lanier or at the ramps in the surrounding parks.

Fishing is also enjoyed on Lake Lanier. Anglers can find several species of bass and catfish, as well as bluegill, crappie, trout, perch, walleye, and more. Lake Lanier is known for having massive fish, including a record 47-pound striped bass.

A mile of beachfront, a beach, and a waterpark with 13 water slides and Georgia's biggest wave pool make up one of the most well-liked attractions in the region, Lake Lanier Islands; it offers a luxury hotel, conference center, golf course, equestrian center, zip line, full-service day spas, and more.

During the winter, Lake Lanier Islands hosts Magical Nights of Lights, a six-mile animated light display that ends with a holiday village featuring carnival rides, bonfires, a Santa shop, and a live nativity scene.
